The Independent Electoral Commission has set 28th and 29 th February 2016 as the dates in which the National Conferences will be held and the subsequent elections of Female Youth MP. The regional conferences for election of Regional Youth MPs will be held on 6 th and 7 th March 2016. In addition, the polling dates for election of Youth Councilors to district and city councils are slated for 26th February 2016 while those to Municipal Divisions, Town Councils and Sub County Councils will be elected on 10th March.
The Electoral body says that nominations of candidates vying for Youth MP positions will be conducted on the polling dates.
The Independent Electoral Commission halted the process leading to elections of Youth representatives following a constitutional court ruling which challenged the procedures under which special interest groups including Youth, Army and Workers were elected into Parliament.

In the case of Youth MPs, the Court challenged the fact that the elections were held under the National Youth Council Act, contrary to the Parliamentary Elections Act. Subsequently, Parliament introduced and passed the Parliamentary Elections Amendment Bill prescribing the procedures of elections of the Youth, Army and Workers MPs.
